Throughout my journey of EPHE 246, I have developed a deeper understanding of key concepts throughout the course. Prior to taking this class, I am proud to say that I was already maintaining beyond the recommended amount of QDPE in my personal life. I have a non-negotiable rule in which I exercise at my local gym 6x per week, with at least one chapter of a book per night. Recently, I completed the reading of “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. This focus of this book is to create small incremental changes in ones life that can lead to bigger changes over time. I believe that the concepts spoken of in this book directly reflect on the topic of active health. Active Health is the proactive version of health in which we are creating lasting habits that and routines to better improve our well being. Something that I learned is how crucial mental wellbeing and social connection can be to ones health. Prior to taking this course, I was far too focused on only the physical aspect of health without taking the proper steps to ensure my mental well being was also being factored in. Understanding the connection of social connection and mental well being into the overall topic of health and wellbeing is something that will be more incorporated into my daily routine. In particular, a goal of that I have set myself is to reflect upon the importance of the UDL for whatever my future holds. Currently being in the BCOM program, I wont be able to apply these concepts in a classroom, but rather in a workspace. Many creative and talented individuals with barriers such as disability our neurodivergence may be discredited because there are not strong enough systems in place to properly support them. In my future endeavours, I plan on creating a space in which everybody has a chance to shine, attempting to remove these barriers all together!
